I can, and might, count this as my one undying love of this lifetime. I’ve been told this doesn’t have to be true. Sometimes I feel, deep in my bones, that it is. Our connection was not normal. Our connection was not of this world. I lost a lot to *** and this love. Some I needed to lose. Some I did not. What we did not get to do was immerse ourselves fully in this space of deep love. For this chance, I fought hard. This fight, I lost.

I can conjure this scene so well. It is one of the pivotal moments in my life. *** at my kitchen table. I am standing across the room, leaning on the large hutch where my tea is. I closed my eyes. I searched inside. I couldn’t find any resistance. I stepped in.
He was right.
